Looks aren't everything, let me tell you. So what if you're not Angelina Jolie? Men aren't interested in dating that fantasy anyway. They want a normal girl next door type to date, not some supermodel. Don't believe it? I'm living proof. Not only was I about thirty pounds heavier a few years ago, but I was single and depressed out of my mind.

But as I was sitting at a bar with my friends, who are all gorgeous and attracted guys like flies to honey, I realized that I wasn't the only slightly less than attractive woman in the room - and they all had guys hanging on them.

What the heck was I waiting for? Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I just started talking to a guy that I thought was cute - and I ended up getting his phone number. Here are the tricks that I found to win ANY guy over.

#1 - Don't Play Dumb

It's a common misconception that men like dumb women. It's not true. While there are some men that like to hook up with less than intelligent women, do you really want to attract those types of guys? Instead, don't pretend like you don't know something if you do know it.

#2 - Be a Little Girly

You don't have to wear a dress to be girly, but you should care about what you look like. Play up your best features so that you feel pretty and confident. For example, when I was a little heavier, I made sure to wear tops that had V necks because they showed off my slim neckline. And my blue eyes were always surrounded by a lighter eyeliner that made them pop.

#3 - Show Off What You Enjoy

If you like the team that's playing on the TV at the bar, why not point out that you like them? You should be open about the things you like so that you can attract the guys with similar interests too. And if it's something that they might not be interested in, don't worry about it. You should show that you're someone who thinks about more things than just dating and hooking up.

#4 - Have an Opinion

The girls who always say that they don't care about certain things can be incredibly annoying to a guy. Guys want a woman who isn't afraid to say what she thinks and what she believes. So, if the guy asks what drink you like or what kinds of music you like, make sure you have a specific answer. That's the perfect starting point for a conversation, after all.

#5 - Don't Complain...Unless It's Funny

Whining and complaining are instant turnoffs for a guy. Guys want to meet new and fun people, so if you tend to complain, make sure you keep them to a minimum and try to make them as sarcastic as possible to ensure that he's laughing with you and not at you.

#6 - Never Talk about Your Weight

A woman who is focused on her appearance and her weight is going to be an instant turn off for a guy, even if they say they don't mind. Try to keep your weight issues to yourself - the guy doesn't want to hear it.

#7 - Be Talented

If you can pop the top of your beer off with your teeth, why not show it off? Even if you have a talent that's not overly girly, you should be proud of things you can do that might be fun to showoff. At a karaoke bar? If you're a good singer, why not belt out the tunes your voice can handle?

#8 - Ask Them Out

Men love it when the woman takes the lead in the relationship, so if you're interested in a guy, ask them out before they have the chance. It's very likely that the guy was going to ask your out anyway, so by doing it for them, you've helped them stop being nervous - and they'll appreciate it.

#9 - Don't Take Anything Personally

Of course, some guys are going to say no to your date offers, so don't take it personally. Also, some guys are going to want to joke with you and try to cut you down to get your attention, so don't it personally. Most of the time, they're not actually trying to be mean.

#10 - Know When to Walk Away

But some guys are just being jerks, so if you feel like you're being made fun of, you have the right to walk away - and you should. You only deserve the very best when it comes to your relationships and your dates.
