I am talking about the metaphorical size of an organ we all share. Women and men alike.

Our heart

Whilst it is not the physical size of our heart that matters, the degree of energetic openness in our heart center defines our ability and receptiveness to love.

So why is an open heart so important to us, especially as women?

It is only when we are opening our hearts fully that we can attract, give and fully receive the kind of love that we truly desire and deserve.

The three stages of opening our heart are:

1. Opening our heart to ourself
2. Opening our heart to our lover
3. Opening our heart to others

Opening our heart to ourself

When we are single and looking for love or are unhappy in an existing relationship we are often attempting to protect ourself from further pain by subconsciously or consciously closing our heart center. The first step to open again or for the first time is to remember the love we already have for ourself a little more every day, accept fears or pain and become totally honest with ourself about what we truly desire.

After the breakup of my marriage, I went through an intense period of self-blame, pain and feelings of isolation. In allowing myself to experience all emotions fully and not attempting to suppress any of them, I learn t to accept myself exactly as I was at the time. Over time my timid new self-acceptance grew into more and more self-love and the discovery of my authentic creative self.

How can we open our heart to ourself more?

Let's practice accepting any part or aspect about ourself that we might judge regularly.

For example instead of saying: Why am I always so emotional or negative? We can instead choose to say to ourself: I give myself permission to feel freely and am grateful to be alive and able to feel.

Let's make a commitment to creating the happiest and most supportive love relationship of our life - with ourself. We want to treat ourself the way we wished to be treated by our dream lover and see ourself through his imaginary eyes of unconditional love. We will then attract this very person into our life and the flow of love in our life will never cease to amaze us.

Opening our heart to our lover

Once we have attracted a romantic partner from an open heart, we are now truly entering the apprenticeship of unconditional love and learning to open our heart even more. It is through relating in intimacy that we will be presented with even more opportunities to practice self-love and acceptance.

Our true spiritual and romantic partner will hold up many mirrors to us. Let's remind ourself that all judgment is self-judgment We like least about others what we have least accepted within ourself.

Burning through ego layers and relating to each other whilst keeping an open heart for ourself and each other might come easily to us, but more often can be a scary and challenging growth process. But over time a higher more unconditional love will begin to become the predominant vibrational resting point. This will help us even further to heal, and catapult each other into the bliss of sharing and expressing divine love.

How can we open our heart to our lover more?

By practicing self love and self-acceptance much judgment of our partner will already diminish dramatically. However, even as soul mates we will have different and at times clashing personalities. The opposing energies of the feminine and masculine are the perfect breeding ground for misunderstandings and disagreements.

It is through deep trust and the inner knowledge of the divine nature of our love that we can open our hearts and meet afresh as lovers every day. We never cease to accept more of ourself and the other, desire to deepen our understanding of each other and stay open to seeing our partner with new eyes.

Let's make a conscious choice to practice opening our heart to our lover and commit to higher love. Knowing that this might mean challenging our own ego patterns - let's be willing to release and let go of any thought or feeling that does not nurture divine love.

Opening our heart to others

Once we have opened our heart fully to our romantic partner and experience divine love in our love relationship, we will feel a growing desire to share and express love to others, whilst potentially also being more open and vulnerable to lower vibrations.

After burning through deep ego layers with my husband and experiencing profound bliss in our love, for a while I did not feel like meeting any new people or even being around anybody else. Experiencing and expressing love with my husband felt like the most blissful place to be. I was either happiest on my own or with my husband.

Witnessing other couples treating each other from places of fear or ego often felt like physical pain to me, and for a long time I wanted to avoid this pain. However the nature of divine love is all-encompassing and consuming and I realized that running away from other people's pain, envy or judgment felt like restricting my own heart in its growth.

I am learning to speak the truth with more and more courage and compassion and rather than judging any relationship that is not resting in divine love, or being afraid of feeling anger and envy from others, I feel increasing love for anyone desiring to live in this place, regardless of their current state of awareness.

I believe that we cannot truly open our heart to the world before opening it to ourself first. It is possible to spend a lifetime focusing on helping others whilst avoiding to open our hearts fully to ourself and a lover. Being in a relationship with an intimate partner can contribute significantly in accelerating the process of opening our heart to others. In my understanding it is an invaluable preparation for divine love and union consciousness.
